Barraco Lodge is a little piece of heaven. It exceeded all expectations! The lodge and houses are so unique and beautiful and the property and views incredible. Since we were the only guests at that time, we had an opportunity to get to know all the people that worked there. The excursions were so much fun and the level of detail and service great. I trout fish extensively in the western US and Alaska. Our guide was extremely professional and helpful. I have never caught as many trout in a day as I did on this trip. I had to take rest breaks for casting and landing 16" to 20" rainbow trout. I must have caught 40 or 50 fish all the while having Orsorno Volcano as the backdrop. It was incredible. Barraco Lodge is wonderful! The Heli-fishing added amazing views enroute to fishing in remote areas. Jaime is a expert and professional pilot with a love of this land and the people. The staff is amazing, hardworking, and friendly. We loved fishing for and catching large rainbow trout, and just as we were tiring the guide would say, "time for a break." We walked around the corner and found a fire cooked meal and table set up for us!! Read the full review

Baracco Lodge was the best surprise of the "hotel" part of the trip. We enjoyed our couple of days here. The horseback riding was fantastic! Perhaps the best "trail ride" I've done in years. We also really liked the heli-kayaking. Such a unique experience and our room was BEAUTIFUL. I'm so glad we did the superior suite. The lamb bbq was also a highlight of our stay here. Barraco Lodge was completely different. We really enjoyed the jet boat ride upriver and meeting some of the locals as well as the walk up to Quetru lagoon. Roger loved his hunting trip as well. The staff were all very friendly and Maite’s cooking was superb.

Review:
Barraco Lodge is situated within 150 acres of private land, on the edge of the Tagua Tagua Lake and Puelo River. The location couldn't be more ideal for exploring the natural treasures of northern Patagonia and the Pacific coast: wild rivers, hidden lakes and waterfalls, crashing glaciers, smoking volcanoes, dramatic cliffs and ancient rainforest.
There are several options for getting to the lodge. By road you can take a 150km transfer from Puerto Varas (3hrs), or a 130km transfer from Puerto Montt (2.5hrs).
Alternatively, you can take a 30min helicopter ride from Tepual Airport at Puerto Montt.
Resident chef, Maite, is as incredibly talented in the kitchen as she is warm and welcoming as a host. The team are committed to sourcing fresh, local, organic ingredients from sustainable sources, and have their own organic garden on site.
You'll enjoy numerous Patagonian specialities including lamb, king crab, seafood and vegetarian/ vegan alternatives, for example, using the delicious native wild mushrooms (Morchelas) from the Puelo Valley.
Maite's pisco sours made with special Ulmo honey are also to die for!
Outdoor dining at Barraco Lodge
Jaime, the owner of Barraco renovated an old 1940's colonial style house as a labour of love, with direction from Edward Rojas, an authority in regional architecture.
The philosophy was always to build in harmony with the natural surroundings, using local craftsmen and materials, and they have done so beautifully.
The combination of Barraco's secluded location, jaw-dropping views, mouth-watering cuisine, friendly team, unique excursions, and commitment to sustainability makes Barraco one of our stand out favourite lodges in all of Patagonia. Beware - you won't want to leave!
Barraco has three separate guest houses, all with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and stunning views.
The house is built entirely with larch wood. It has a lounge, library, Patagonian kitchen, dining room, outside dining table and spacious terraces with a great view of Río Puelo.
On the second floor, there are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms: the Tagua Tagua Suite, with a view of the Lake, and the Bandurria Suite, with a view of the northeast mountains.
The Tagua Tagua Suite is 45m². It has a kingsize bed, wood-burning stove, private bathroom with a free-standing tub and a spectacular view of the lake.
The Bandurria Suite is 35m² and has two full beds which can be assembled together to form a kingsize bed. There is also a wood-burning stove, en-suite bathrooms with a bath tub and a view over the surrounding hills.
The Chinook Suite has two full beds that can be joined to make a super kingsize bed. It's very cosy, with a leather Chesterton sofa, fur rugs, Gaucho 'matras' and a large picture window with a panoramic view of Lago Tagua Tagua and Río Puelo. There are double combustion wood-burning stoves in both the bedroom area and the bathroom.
The Chinook Suite
The Fario Suite is 23m² with two full beds that can be joined to make a king-size and a double combustion wood-burning stove. Enjoy a panoramic view of Lago Tagua Tagua.
At 90m², this is a perfect option for families and groups who prefer the privacy of a house just for themselves. With fur rugs and wood finishes, the décor is rustic Patagonian throughout, including the living room and American kitchen. Heating is with double combustion wood-burning stoves. The main southeast views look out over Lago Tagua Tagua.
The Pudu suite is 12m² (130ft²), situated on the first floor and is a cosy room with a lake view, two full beds or a king-size bed, private bathroom and a wood-burning stove.
This is a cosy suite with a view of Lago Tagua Tagua. Choose from either two single beds or a king-size bed. The suite has an en-suite bathroom and a double combustion wood-burning stove.
There is a 15m² (160ft²) attic room with three full beds, plus an adjacent 9m² (100ft²) bedroom with two full beds that can be joined together. These two rooms share a bathroom.
Barraco Lodge is open from October to April.
