Hotel overview:

Nestled in the Isla Navarino mountains, on the verdant shores of the Beagle Channel, Los Cauquenes Resort is a jewel in the Patagonian crown. Admire expansive views of glittering water and majestic peaks from cosy bedrooms and relaxed communal areas, including a luxurious spa.

Why we like this resort

  • A place of tranquillity and rest, while being just 15 minutes from the centre of town; a well-scheduled shuttle service is provided by the hotel
  • Authentic and tasty gastronomy plus spa facilities fit for the southernmost city in the world
  • Walk along the private beach by dawn, day or dusk and witness the extraordinary birdlife that visits the waters and Isla Navarino mountains
  • Breathtaking views throughout the resort, afforded by wide windows and a stunning communal glass room, with a real edge-of-the-earth feel
  • The inviting interior is rustic and homely in style, perfect for reflecting on a day spent on one of the many excursions offered

Excursions

Immerse yourself in the splendour of Patagonia’s unique landscapes and wildlife through an array of excursions from Los Cauquenes Resort. Excursions include National Park and Glacier treks, boat trips, cooking classes, fishing, and bird watching. Regular shuttle transfers also run between the resort and the centre of Ushuaia, with its range of restaurants and small shops.

Hiking

Eight different treks are offered from the hotel, ranging in duration and levels. Build a deep knowledge of the geography and wildlife of the region hiking through the Tierra del Fuego National Park, the place where the Sub-Antarctic forest meets the Beagle Channel and the Andes mountain range. Trek through forests and mountains to Lapataia Bay, combining the hike with a cruise on the Beagle Channel, or all the way to Isla Redonda for an additional shore-to-shore trail. Or ascend the Martial and Vinciguerra Glaciers, getting acquainted with amazing views of the city at the end of the world from various vantage points.

You'll be driven to and collected from the start and end points of your treks. Picnic lunches are included on full-day hikes.

Boat Trips

Boat trips are available to suit to a range of interests. Embrace a different perspective of Ushuaia while sailing out to the deep waters of the Beagle Channel.

See the abundance of seabirds and marine mammals the region is home to with trips to Mary Ann and Les Eclaireurs islands, or the Bridges archipelago and Isla Redonda. Navigate from the Magellanic Penguins at Martillo Island to the historical Harberton's Wharf.

If you're looking for a luxury gourmet experience, enjoy an Argentine-style afternoon tea or dinner whilst cruising along the channel; watching the sun set over the Andean Mountain Range.

Shorter Excursions

Ideal if you want to plan a more relaxed day, or combine with a half-day excursion. A two-hour Fuegian cooking class with the hotel chefs is offered, where you will prepare some of the region's most popular dishes, such as Tierra del Fuego crab, before enjoying them in the Reinamora Restaurant.

The resort also offers a guided tour of Ushuaia city, in which you'll visit traditional neighbourhoods, seek out panoramic viewpoints, and have the opportunity to discover its rich history.

This resort has a great range of excursions from off the beaten track ice hikes to visiting penguin islands, boat trips to access trails in the national park and bird watching. One of my favourites is the cooking classes.
