Hotel overview:

Nestled on the verdant shores of the Beagle Channel, with Tierra del Fuego's dramatic Andean mountain range rising behind, Los Cauquenes Resort is a jewel in the Patagonian crown. Admire expansive views of glittering water and majestic peaks from cosy bedrooms and relaxed, spacious communal areas, including a luxurious spa, with first class service and cuisine to suite, whilst being just 10 minutes drive to downtown Ushuaia.

Why we like this hotel

  • Very tranquil while being just 15 minutes from the centre of town.
  • Fantastic views throughout the resort, afforded by wide windows and a communal glass room enhancing the edge-of-the-earth feel.
  • An authentic Argentine experience with a touch of luxury, great food and fantastic wine lists.
  • Good spa facilities that will be improved later in 2025.
  • Walk along the private beach by dawn, day or dusk and witness the extraordinary birdlife that visits the waters and Isla Navarino mountains.
  • The inviting interior is rustic and homely in style, perfect for reflecting on a day spent on one of the many excursions offered.
  • It has its own boat! Akawaia is an exclusive vessel for experiences on the Beagle Channel, including wildlife observation tours and gourmet meals aboard.

We think it's worth noting

  • We think Cauquenes is suited to someone who prefers smaller hotels / a more boutique style with character.
  • Standard rooms may not have a view of the mountains/Beagle Channel—so we would recommend upgrading to one of the premium options.
  • Thin walls in some of the rooms can lead to disruption
  • If you don’t want to take the shuttle (that goes every hour) into town, you are better off choosing somewhere within walking distance.

The spa is a real treat. You're at the edge of the earth relaxing in a warm pool, jacuzzi or sauna, and can literally swim outside to take in the great view over the Bagle channel, overlooking Chile, all from the same swimming pool of water.

This resort has a great range of excursions from off-the-beaten-track hikes to visiting penguin islands, trips on the Cauquenes exclusive boat, access trails in the national park and bird watching. I also love the fact that you can hike up to Monte Susana from the hotel!
