For me, the gem of the hotel is the ‘Wiliche’, the wooden boat. Whilst out on her, we pulled up alongside a small, local fishing boat to see what they were catching. We were offered some of their catch – local mussels and clams. Later in the afternoon the captain cooked these up with white wine, garlic and onions – delicious and so fresh.

San José is the closest village, whilst the island's capital, Castro, is 18km away. The nearest airport is Mocopulli – Castro (MHC), a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Commercial flights from Chile’s capital, Santiago (2.5hr flight time), land here 4 times a week. The airport at Puerto Montt (PMC) receives several flights daily from Santiago (2-hour flight) and is approximately a 3 to 4 hour drive from the hotel.
