As you leave El Calafate, the landscape begins to broaden, and rolling hills stretch out as far as the eye can see. High up on this windswept land, with 3,000 hectares to call its own, sits one of the most luxurious hotels in Patagonia... Welcome to Eolo.
The lodge has 12 superior rooms, 3 premium rooms and 2 corner rooms, although the difference in size is fairly minimal. Each room has views of Lago Argentino, La Anita Valley or the Torres del Paine, visible even from your waterfall shower.
Hotel Eolo is incredibly proud of its restaurant and with good reason. This is one of the few places in Patagonia where you can experience Relais & Chateaux standard cuisine, and each meal brings together international techniques and the Patagonian touch.
Fresh, regional produce is used throughout, and all wines come exclusively from Argentine wineries.
The other element that rather steals the show in the restaurant is the view from the enormous windows. The hills stretch out in every direction from just in front of your table, so you can watch the landscape wake up in pinks and oranges at sunrise, or the wind swirl across the grass, whilst enjoying some of the best food in the region.
There is a swimming pool, sauna and massage/treatment rooms on site, as well as a pleasant garden area with sun loungers for those want to use their stay as an opportunity to switch off, and relax in the surroundings.
There is also a library and telescope for clear nights, and outside decking to enjoy the views.
If you do want to go out and explore, excursions include hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, zip lining, and visits to the nearby Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the highlights of the region and well worth a visit. Not all excursions are included, so check in advance depending on what you want to do.
Eolo is open between October and April with prices starting from USD $685 per person for a Double Room per night. The price includes:
