Why we like this hotel

  • The chance to explore a lost land of glaciers, mountains, lakes, rivers, refuges, trails, canyons, valleys, and forests.
  • The mighty Upsala Glacier is located nearby.
  • Top-level, varied and healthy cuisine with excellent service.
  • This estancia is run with the same effort and perseverance as its founding family from 1914.
  • The museum on-site offers a great chance to learn about the history of the estancia.

We think it's worth noting

  • There is not the expansive range of excursions you might expect at other all-inclusive lodges, but we believe there is ample offering for 2-3 days of activities.
  • There is no cell phone coverage at the estancia (there is decent WIFI).
  • There is no electricity from midnight to 6am, as generators are turned off. They can be kept going for specific reasons (such as a CPAC machine requirement) for an extra cost.
  • House - Alcoholic beverages are included during meal times only, otherwise these can be purchased separately.

The boat that Cristina and her family built taking 10 years is now beached on the shore of the lake by the Estancia. We took a walk down to the shore at sunset to shoot some photos of the historical boat which is a big part of the history of the estancia. Seeing the boat weathered and falling apart with the ice-capped mountains reminded me why I love Patagonia so much!

Reviews of Estancia Cristina

Estancia Cristina trips scored 4.5/5 from 7 reviews

My favorite boat ride to a glacier - Upsala. Beautiful ship, 5 star cuisine and service at the Estancia also. Very interesting icebergs on the way, very cool history, wonderful, engaging guides. The 4x4 trip was worth it to see the glacier. Read the full review

Riding out on the boat to the estancia was breathtaking! To see some of the broken off pieces of glacier that were still so huge and navigate around them was so amazing! Read the full review

Incredible! The service, food and location was spectacular. We went horse-back riding, hiked and went on a four wheeled drive up to the glacier. The guides and staff were terrific.
