Tell us about EcoCamp
It was wonderful. loved all the guides. The pace of the mornings for breakfast and getting to hikes is a bit frenetic. A little downtime to enjoy the "base camp" would have been nice. Thank you to Pancho for getting me a van ride after the Base of the Towers hike! Food great, last night of accomodation in a superior suite dome was very special. Thank you for arranging that for us.
Something Else?
We did not enjoy the Veat hotel in Puerto Natales. Although the location was great, the staff pleasant, our tiny room on the 3rd floor with twin beds was so small it was hard to pack for our return trip home. This was NOT the quality we expected and by far the worst accomodations on our trip, and this is where we had the most time to hang out in a hotel room, and quite honestly, it sucked.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Wished I had considered coming here as a younger person. The idea of a moderate hike is actually "demanding", an "easy" hike is moderate. Note that folks from Puerto Natales can take a 2 hour bus ride to the trails at ECO Camp - it is busy.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Patagonia is truly special and wild, and WINDY. I feel quite priveleged to have been able to go there.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
We have provided along the way. The itinerary was very well planned, and efficient. Although our flight delay was not SWOOP or EXITO's control, I felt a bit abandoned in dealing with this, and my spanish isn't great either. Getting ahold of folks on a Sunday was challenging also. You made a few amends along the way such as wine/chocolate, a room upgrade and a personal hello in Puerto Natales. Honestly, we think the price paid was high for some of the ordinary tours that could have been booked through a low end operator like Viatour, but we wanted full coordination of all elements. Once 2 things went awry, I felt the need to reach out to all subcontractors to ensure the next steps - that isn't how it should have been. The National Park entrance fees were ridicuolous and stressful too. But, I am sure you are all happy we are back home!
