Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Ushuaia Airport; Train ride and National Park hike

You'll be met at Ushuaia Airport and take a transfer to your hotel in the city.

In the afternoon you'll embark on a unique excursion. You'll be driven to the train station for the 'End of the World Train', about 5 miles/8km out of Ushuaia. Here, at the southernmost railway in the world, you'll board a tiny steam train for a scenic 4.5 mile/7km ride through the Pico Valley in the Toro Gorge.

There is only one stop along the route, the La Macarena Waterfall station. Here you'll have the opportunity to get off the train and hike to the waterfall and viewpoint.

The 50-minute journey ends at the end of the line at the Tierra del Fuego National Park entrance.

When you disembark you'll be driven to Lapataia Bay from where you'll start a hike to Lake Acigami which will take around one hour. This National Park is unique in Argentina for incorporating maritime coast, forests, lakes and mountains.

A vehicle will be waiting at Lake Acigami to take you back to your hotel in Ushuaia - a journey of one hour.

Accommodation: Cilene del Fuego (or equivalent), or Los Cauquenes Resort

Day 2: Hike to Laguna Esmeralda

This morning you'll be picked up from your hotel at 9am and will head to the trailhead for Laguna Esmeralda, about 30 minutes drive from Ushuaia.

From here you'll hike across varied and scenic snow-covered terrain: subantarctic forest, peat valleys and frozen rivers blocked by beaver dams.

It will take around two hours of walking to reach the frozen Laguna Esmeralda, set in a stunning location, surrounded by snowy peaks. You'll stop here for lunch and a hot drink and have time to relax and take photos.

You'll then retrace your steps back to your vehicle which will be waiting at the trailhead. The journey back to Ushuaia will take around 30 minutes, arriving back at your hotel at 3pm.

Hike: 5.6 miles/9km, 5hrs

Meals: Breakfast, box lunch

Accommodation: Cilene del Fuego (or equivalent), or Los Cauquenes Resort

Day 3: 4x4 trip to Hidden Lake

At 9am you'll be picked up from your hotel and driven about an hour towards the north of the island. There will be several stops along the route at panoramic views.

From here you'll drive to the Hidden Lake and Lake Fagnano. Your 4x4 will need to navigate the rough terrain, through ice and snow, to explore the wild areas of the Patagonian forests. When the 4x4 can go no further, you'll embark on a hike along old lumberjack trails to a cosy mountain refuge. Here you'll have a traditional Argentine lunch consisting of cold meats, cheese, salad and a dessert. There will be both wine and hot drinks to enjoy.

At around 3pm you'll start your return journey to Ushuaia, arriving back at your hotel at 5pm.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch

Accommodation: Cilene del Fuego (or equivalent), or Los Cauquenes Resort

Day 4: Transfer to Ushuaia Airport

This morning you'll check out of your hotel and take a transfer to Ushuaia Airport for your onward travel.

Meals: Breakfast
