Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from airport; Afternoon mountain bike ride

You'll be met at Ushuaia Airport and will take a shared transfer to your hotel in Ushuaia.

In the afternoon you'll head out on your first excursion. This will be a demanding bike ride, though it can be shortened. Ebikes are available, but must be requested in advance.

You'll drive 15 minutes from Ushuaia to the trailhead, then ride into the the Playa Larga Nature & Cultural Reserve on a trail right on along the rugged coastline of the Beagle Channel.

You'll ride to the old Estancia Túnel from where you'll be able to appreciate the biodiversity of the coastal forest; the iconic flag tree, the beautiful flowers of the notros, the cinnamon trees and numerous varieties of fruit bushes.

At the end of the ride you will be picked up and driven back to your hotel in Ushuaia.

This is a strenuous ride and those with more cycling experience are likely to enjoy it more.

There is also a less strenuous route which takes less time. On this option, you'll follow an alternative route through forests and peat bogs, ascending towards the Martial Glacier, of which you have dazzling views. There will also be panoramic views to the south of the Beagle Channel and its islands, with views of the mountains to the north.

Length of ride: 7.5 miles/12km

Duration: 5 hours total (3 hours riding)

Accommodation: Cilene del Faro, or equivalent (upgrade to Los Cauquenes Resort)

Day 2: Raft & hike to Gable Island; Penguins at Martillo Island

This full-day group excursion starts at 8am when you'll be picked up from your hotel. You'll be driven east from Ushuaia for around two hours, through a glacial valley, following the course of the Lasifashaj River, the longest river in Tierra del Fuego, to its end at the Bahía Brown on the Beagle Channel.

Here you'll have a technical and safety briefing, before embarking in a raft for a paddle in the Beagle Channel. With the expert instruction of your experienced guides, you'll paddle for about two hours to various locations for a unique view of the rugged shoreline and remote beaches.

You'll finish the rafting at the private nature reserve of Gable Island where you'll see how life was before tourism arrived in this region. A hearty lunch will be served here featuring regional food.

After lunch you'll hike south across the island to the clifftops from where you'll have a panoramic view of the Beagle Channel towards Ushuaia with Puerto Williams not far away.

After the hike you'll take a motorboat to the private nature reserve of Martillo Island where magellan and gentoo penguins arrive to nest in the summer. You'll be able to observe them from the boat, so as not to disturb their activities on the island.

The motorboat will then return to the mainland from where you'll be driven back to your hotel in Ushuaia, about an hour away, arriving around 8pm.

Please not that this excursion does not run every day, so could be taken on a different day of your trip.

Hike on Gable Island: 1.5 miles/4.5km, 2.5hrs

Meals: Breakfast, box lunch

Accommodation: Cilene del Faro, or equivalent (upgrade to Los Cauquenes Resort)

Day 3: Half-day horse ride

Today's excursion can be taken in either the morning or afternoon. It's open to people with, or without, prior horse riding experience.

You'll start with a transfer from your hotel to the stables, about ten minutes away. From here you'll ride out on a deep forest trail, next to the Beagle Channel, with occasional views of Ushuaia. The route goes around Monte Susana with the terrain being muddy and steep in places. It can also be windy.

When you return to the stables, you'll be offered tea/coffee and cookies.

Both shorter and longer day-rides are available upon request.

Length of excursion: 4 hours

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Cilene del Faro, or equivalent (upgrade to Los Cauquenes Resort)

Day 4: Full-day Mt Carabajal & Laguna Turquesa hike

Today's excursion takes in three of Tierra del Fuego's most distinctive features: subantarctic forests, vibrant lagoons and unforgettable views. This is one of the best day hikes your can do from Ushuaia.

You'll be picked up from your hotel at 8.30am for the 30-minute drive to the trailhead.

After hiking for around an hour you'll reach the high-altitude valley where Laguna Turquesa is located. From here you can see the stunning Emerald Lagoon and surrounding mountains and valleys. The trail can be wet in places so be sure to wear decent footwear.

You'll hike on to Mount Carbajal, reaching the summit after several more hours. From the top you'll have unrivalled views of the region's most iconic mountains, its vast valleys and colourful lagoons, though it can be very windy up here. You'll have a break here for lunch and time to soak up the views.

Descending the mountain along a valley for about three hours, on a different trail to your ascent route, you'll reach the road. It's from here that you'll be picked up and driven back to your hotel in Ushuaia.

Length of hike: 8 miles/13km, 6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, box lunch

Accommodation: Cilene del Faro, or equivalent (upgrade to Los Cauquenes Resort)

Day 5: Transfer to airport

This morning you'll check out of your hotel and take a shared transfer the Ushuaia Airport.

Meals: Breakfast
