Gentle Adventure in Aysen

Day 1: Drive Balmaceda Airport to Mallín Colorado; Kayak the Marble Caves

After you arrive at Balmaceda Airport, you'll start your roadtrip through Patagonia, driving yourself through valleys and forests and past rivers and mountains. Moving onto a thinner, unpaved road, surrounded by wild lupins in springtime (Nov/Dec) you'll arrive at Lake General Carrera. This vast mass of turquoise-coloured water forms the second-largest lake in South America (after Lake Titicaca).

Stop at the village of Puerto Tranquilo for a kayak excursion to the stunning marble caves. From here drive to Mallín Colorado where you'll find the Mallín Colorado Lodge for dinner and a good night's sleep.

Day 2: San Rafael Glacier Adventure

The day starts early in the morning with a 2.5hr drive north to Bahía Exploradores. From there you'll take a boat for around 60km travelling through forest and fjord to the secluded San Rafael Lagoon. 

Once here you'll have plenty of time to soak up the fantastic views of the constantly moving San Rafael Glacier and witness the calving of huge chunks of ice. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning via the same route to Bahía Exploradores. 

You will arrive back at Mallin Colorado in time for your evening meal.

Day 3: Patagonia National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Patagonia National Park, stopping along the way to see the confluence of the rivers Baker and Nef, where different colours of water meet, and you can feel the power of nature in this extraordinary waterfall.

Arriving in Patagonia National Park you will encounter a completely different landscape: the Patagonia steppe with mountains and forests and you will find innumerable guanacos grazing.

You can visit the Conservation Museum to learn about this incredible rewilding project at the park headquarters, and then take a short hike either on the Aviles trek with its hanging bridge or close to the park headquarters.

Day 4: Free Day at Mallín Colorado Lodge - Horseriding or Hiking

A relaxing day based from Mallin Colorado Lodge. There are some beautiful trails to ride or hike and you can relax on the shores of Lago General Carrera or head to the magnificent Northern Ice Field.

Day 5: Drive to Balmaceda Airport

After breakfast, drive to Balmaceda Airport for your onward flight.
