Operator's Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to El Chaltén
You'll have a private transfer from El Calafate airport/bus station to El Chaltén where you'll have some time to settle into your hotel.
Accommodation: Aguila Mora Apartments or similar, El Chaltén
Day 2: Private Guided Trek
Today you'll undertake a private guided trek. Some possible options are lsited below:
1. Laguna de los Tres – You can trek this route from El Chaltén as a there-and-back route retracing your steps, however it's much better to drive out to Hosteria Pilar and start from there. The route ascends approximately 800m after starting out on a forest path with views across to Glacier Piedras Blancas. There's a steep final ascent to Laguna de Los Tres – a great place to stop for lunch if conditions permit. The descent takes you to the wonderful Laguna Capri which also offers great views up to the massif.
Length of hike: 7-9hrs, 22km
2. Laguna Torre – On this hike, you ascend through a perfect glaciated valley up to the Laguna Torre with its wonderful views of Cerro Torre and the glacier. It's an easier hike than the Laguna de Los Tres, only ascending 250m-350m, depending on whether you continue up to the Maestri viewpoint.
Length of hike: 5-6hrs, 20km
3. Loma del Pliegue Tumbado – This trek takes you to the south of the Fitz Roy massif, offering a different perspective on the mountains as well as the view south to Lake Viedma. Although the altitude gain is significant, the route is relatively easygoing – keep an eye out for fossils!
Length of hike: 6-8hrs, 16-18km
The trail you will hike will be decided with your local mountain guide, according to the climatic conditions at the time of travel. You are likely to be able to hike much less distance than if doing the same trail in summer, as there will certainly be snow for some/all of the route. You may have to use crampons or snow shoes (not included in the trip price) to access the trails that you wish to do. All hiking will be done from the town of El Chalten unless conditions allow and you wish to use a vehicle to access parts of the park that are further afield. Please note that vehicle/transport costs are not included in the trip price and are subject to availability at the time of travel.
Meals: Breakfast, box lunch
Accommodation: Aguila Mora Apartments or similar, El Chaltén
Day 3: Private Guided Trek; Transfer to El Calafate
Today you'll undertake another private guided trek.
Again, the trail you will hike will be decided with your local mountain guide, taking into account the climatic conditions at the time.
In the evening you'll take a bus to El Calafate and stay there overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, box lunch
Accommodation: Hotel in El Calafate
Day 4: Private Guided Excursion to Perito Moreno Glacier including Safari Nautico
Today you'll have a full-day excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier with a private guide.
You'll have several hours to enjoy the wonders of the glacier from the walkways and viewing galleries, with their different perspectives. Chances are you'll see huge chunks of ice calve off the face of this advancing glacier and crash into the water below.
The “Safari Náutico” is a one-hour navigation that offers the possibility to observe the spectacular ice walls of the Perito Moreno Glacier from another angle. Enjoy its sheer size, different hues of blue and if you’re lucky some more ice calving, too!
There's the option of switching to Minitrekking on the glacier (except from 1st June to 15th July) - please enquire for more details as there is an additional cost (approx USD $100).
Meals: Breakfast, box lunch
Accommodation: Hotel in El Calafate
Day 5: Transfer to El Calafate Airport
Today you'll take a transfer to El Calafate Airport in plenty of time for your onward flight.
Meals: Breakfast
