What was your most memorable moment?

It's hard to choose a single, most memorable moment. But certainly the opportunity to walk amongst a colony of wild penguins was the most joyful experience. Sharing the accomplishment of reaching hard-to-reach hiking overlooks with my hiking companions is a close second.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

It's amazing. You need to be more explicit about the arrangements for the hike, though. It was not at all clear that we would not be bringing our sleeping bag and pad with us in our packs. We did not fully realize that there were shuttles between the legs of the hike and did not need a huge backpack to bring three days of clothes.

Tell us about Tierra del Fuego

The chance to walk with penguins was a highlight of the trip for me. Since there's only one company that does this, I think you should tell trip participants if they want to do this to book in advance. We did some research and did book in advance, but many in our group were disappointed that this tour was sold out.

Tell us about Los Glaciares

Magnificent! We took so many photos.

Tell us about Buenos Aires

I had not expected Buenos Aires to be as sophisticated and an enjoyable as it was. The tango show was spectacular...impressive and lots of fun.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Pack a buff for the hike to Torres del Paine. You absolutely do need hiking poles for the trek. This really should be highly recommended, not just listed as optional. Blister plasters are helpful. You probably will need them.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

This is only the second group trip that I've been on in my life. The camaraderie and companionship of being with a group on such long and arduous climbs was a huge part of the experience. It's motivational and celebratory. Though I think of myself as an introverted person, I do now feel more open to traveling with a small group. Ten travelers was just about the right size.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Keep Flo! She's a treasure.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

I was very excited. Also very nervous about the length and difficulty of the hikes.
