Tell us about Explora

The main problem we had was with the very nice staff not paying attention to our dietary restrictions, It would have been an easy matter to put a note on our room or our check in information that we were gluten-free people. The attention to this detail was a bit disappointing. Every night we got an alfahor at bedtime - it was NOT gluten-free. If we had eaten even once any of these GF nightly treats, we would have been so sick the next day that we would have had to cancel our excursions. It's not a joke when someone has a food allergy. This absolute of attention to our food allergy was very stressful. Every meal we had to ask about every dish for it to be verified that it was really GF. Every breakfast we had to ask for GF toast. And it came every day barely toasted, so we had to send it back to have it really toasted. Most of our guides were amazing. But all excursions could have been better explained. It would be a good idea if the guides had a better idea of the level of fitness of the guests. We had one negative experience on the day before we left when we changed our plans and ended up doing the boat to the other side of the lake - we had already done it the day before when we did the 15km hike to the glacier. But the guide did a bad job of explaining and so we jumped on the boat and it was cold and windy and cloudy.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Clothing is important. The wind is much stronger and much more of an issue than I ever thought possible. Eye protection is absolutely a must. I would recommend wool, layers of wool - wool socks, wool T-shirt, wool sweater. Wool beanie

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I really felt abandoned and not cared for by our adventure coordinator after we paid. Until we paid we were treated very well with daily phone calls. After we paid, whenever we had a doubt, our coordinator referred us to the site. One example was that we had an early flight out of Santiago and then a 2 hour drive to Explora. We left the hotel too early for breakfast, then there was no food on the plane and no food to buy at Puerto Natales airport. Our friend that used a different company to plan their trip, their trip planner told then that there would be no opportunity to eat or buy food and they brought sandwiches with them.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

We were very prepared and excited
