What was your most memorable moment?
Too many to mention, it was a fabulous holiday. Perhaps the most impactful was the solitude we enjoyed in the huge and dramatically beautiful landscapes. We truly felt alone, a privilege these days, with the most stunning views in the world. But we never felt truly alone, as we were always well cared for, attended when we needed and left alone when we wanted. The guiding was superb, the horses angels! Surefooted and strong, and incredibly patient. This is certainly not for the faint at heart, but will certainly fill you with joy, awe and gratitude if you can handle the outdoors, on horseback, at speed, in crazy weather.

Tell us about Torres del Paine
A hidden treasure. I had not heard about it until recently and was blown away by it- literally and metaphorically. Absolutely stunning and well worth the visit. Because we went on horseback, we were able to access places not easily accessed by foot or hike- it was truly special in its isolation. Being able to ride around the Paine Massif over 6 days covering 150 kms was a gift and allows us to see the mountain from many different angles.
Tell us about Tierra del Fuego
The cruise exceeded expectations. The highlight was the spectacular scenery and that the boats were able to get us extremely close to everything, safely. The ship was perfectly appointed for the task and the excursions provided enough variety to cater to most physical abilities. We were very lucky, the weather was clement and we were able to do all shore excursions, fully knowing that sometimes the weather prevents leaving the ship. I would say it is a voyage of exploration, with a lot of things to do. It is not a trip to relax, although it is possible if that is what you want. But for the nature and history curious, it has the right balance of activity, exploration and variety, while cruising in extreme comfort.
Tell us about the Horseriding
Our guides were both lovely, one more outgoing than the other. They struck the perfect balance of caring for us and leaving us alone. The gauchos were a hoot! Straight out of Central Casting. They tended to our every need with kindness and courtesy. The horses were all fabulous, sturdy, safe, willing and never complained. Every one of us felt very safe despite not knowing the horses and the ride being quite challenging. I would definitely recommend it to others, but with the caveat that it is challenging, physically demanding and you don't get much sleep. We were very lucky with the weather- sun every day and we only got wet from going in the rivers, not from the predicted rain.
Tell us about the Zodiac
All the guides were very capable and professional, they took great care of us. It was impressive to see the military operation of unloading the 100+ passengers onto Zodiacs in rolling water. I would highly recommend it to others and I would advise that, while it is physically demanding, there is no real opportunity for long hikes or heavy exercise. Everything is tightly controlled and you are never allowed to roam on your own.
Tell us about the Wildlife
The wildlife was lovely, particularly the birds. We were not lucky to see sea mammals, so we mostly focused on birdlife. I love birds so that was nice. I would recommend it but I would caveat it with expectation of not abundant visible wildlife.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Be prepared for all types of weather. And be prepared for it being a huge place and that it takes a long, long time to get there and get around there. Be prepared to be amazed.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Indeed ! I feel like we discovered a hidden little jewel in the world.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Chloe was great. We didn't really do much with the in country team in Chile so can't comment there. All our questions were answered satisfactorily. It would be helpful for the Chile Nativo team to update their travel packing lists with perhaps photos of the chaps, helmets, etc. so we have a better idea of what to expect. Also, an updated guide to tipping and how many people we will encounter. We did not expect to have guides AND gauchos, and different gauchos at 3 different estancias. This made it difficult to plan the cost. The only thing I struggled with was the accents of the guides on the ship. They were perfectly fluent I English but their accents made it difficult to understand them. I am a Spanish speaker but I listened in English and I struggled to understand.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
We were very excited and very happy with the result. We felt quite prepared except I would have appreciated more detail on the expenses (tips) we would incur on the ride, as that was problematic on the day.
