Tell us about Los Glaciares
The glacier was spectacular. Our guide, Juan was very good. This is a “must do” adventure. I was underwhelmed with the hotel. I would rather have been closer in town. We had one dinner there and the food was not that good and service in the bar was poor (that is where we ate). The hotel is a downgrade from all the other luxurious places we were booked in this trip. While the views were lovely, they were not worth it.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Poles are a must!! I took a 34 Liter backpack which was perfect. However, when we hiked into the park, feom El Chalten, we were expected to carry our sleeping bag the first day and for 2 hours the next. Our planner, Alicia, said we would not be expected to do this so it was a bit of a surprise. The guide had to strap the sleeping bag to the outside of my backpack which worked great, but was a bit more work for him. I didn’t mind and would still not recommend a larger backpack just because of that. Expect lots of wind. It didn’t bother me, but it is a unique feature to this trip. Plan out tips in advance and bring more cash then you think you will need. This is not a complaint. I enjoy tipping, just need to be prepared. Expect very friendly people, most of which speak English, but learning some Spanish makes the trip more fun.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I loved all the sustainable practices of the places we stayed. The Biodynamic winery was fascinating. I’m glad to know how much companies are trying to do better and this has inspired me to do better.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I think the team did great! I already mentioned the fact that we were told we would not be carrying sleeping bags. Might be worth getting together with “Walk Patagonia” so they are prepare that people may not have backpacks that can accommodate that. They seemed surprised that we were surprised 😊
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
Very prepared and super excited. I think your videos and video Chats were great in answering all my questions.
