Tell us about EcoCamp

Bad news first: Jason Hamilton & Christine Cronin had to move after the first night. Then (their 2nd night) the heater in their new dome did not work and there was no wood or matches for the stove, they informed the office before our excursion. The third day, the heater was still not working, Christine asked for wood & matches which she got before dinner, so she started a fire. They didn’t realize until the middle of the night when they woke up freezing, that someone on staff had taken the box of matches from their dome. Jason reported this to the office. Two others in our party, Amy Wolfe & Mary Ann Durham were informed the morning of our last excursion that they had to move rooms so they had to get off the bus while we packed their items in preparation for moving. The management indicated that was standard occurrence however, none of us knew about it before then. Everything else was great! The domes were very nice, meals were fantastic and our guides were incredibly professional! They were very knowledgeable, friendly and encouraging! Eduardo got the brunt of two that were pretty grumpy on the last excursion and handled the situation so very respectfully and was incredibly kind and thoughtful. Everything

Tell us about Torres del Paine

We absolutely loved all the excursions : each hikes was unique and the guides gave excellent support, information and encouragement. Rodrigo knew lots about the plants, history & related stories while Eduardo was especially knowledgeable about the animals, geology and history. They made every minute of commutes to trailheads and hiking a learning experience.

Tell us about Los Glaciares

Each hike was very different than the others and of course, the experiences with the glaciers was phenomenal.

Tell us about Buenos Aires

A very interesting city. The hotel was very nice. We hired a guide (outside of our Swoop arrangements) to take us around the city so we learned a lot in a 4 hours.

Tell us about Chilean Lakes

Highlight was the 100k meal. Sadly the rain was so hard we didn’t get to hike (Lake Todos los Santos) in the natl park around the volcano. We did go inside the park and saw the waterfall. We did have a non rainy day for bike riding but as stated before, riding on the highway was not pleasant. We did enjoy the pizza and brew at the brewery. Again, very rainy and windy the 3rd day for kayaking the fjord. We did go for an abbreviated trip.

With the exception of Franco, our Argentinian guides were not great. Guilda was the lead guide and kept an incredibly fast pace the only 2 could keep up with. When it was mentioned to her, she said that Matt, usually behind her, was pushing her (in the sense of making her feel she had to move fast, not physically pushing her). That was half way up the first day, but she never changed her pace. The one day Franco led, in the preserve, everyone felt very positive about how he was leading, stopping occasionally to let everyone catch up, sharing information when everyone could hear, etc. Our EcoCamp guides were top notch! Chris & I would recommend them to anyone, without hesitation!

Something Else?

One of our group (Amy) was without luggage for the week we were in El Chasten, as the airline lost it. Walk Patagonia was absolutely amazing about getting her gear to use and helping her get to a local merchant to purchase what they didn’t have for her to borrow. Incredible service! I was I could remember the woman’s name in the el chalten office, but she was wonderful!

Tell us about the Trekking

We absolutely loved all the hikes we did and would highly recommend to any traveler. We’ve been doing international trips like these for many years; I think this trip was probably the best one I’ve ever done-even with the

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I didn’t know that the glacier there is the 3rd largest in the world nor did I realize how huge these countries are. The interest in national parks is wonderful and the education they expect guides to have is exemplary. Of course the people are very friendly, the food was very good and I enjoyed almost every aspect.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

None other than the few concerns previously mentioned.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
