What was your most memorable moment?

I wanted to experience two things. Silly, but the first was drinking from a stream in Patagonia. I did! Second, being able to get to Cape Horn. (It was always “weather permitting”). Also did that! I loved the hikes and the scenery was incredible.

Tell us about Tierra del Fuego

Just to mention the hotel Arakur. Definitely recommend this hotel! What a special place. Wish I had booked two nights.

Something Else?

El Calafate and El Chalten. Both were a 10. We loved our hikes in El Chalten and we really liked Chalten Camp. (Guest should be aware however that if you don’t get up in the middle of the night to put a log on the fire you will be cold in the morning!) The Perito Moreno Glacier, along with the whole day at the ranch, was very enjoyable. Even though we had seen a lot of glaciers on our hikes this was one not to miss.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

We followed the advice on what to bring and were not disappointed. I was pleased that I had a light weight dress for Santiago as it was 94 the day we were there. Also to be aware at the camp that if your clothes get super wet you won’t be able to dry them. Bringing a couple of throw away rain ponchos for emergency use might be a good thing to pack.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I suppose if anything it just reminded me that there are still places in the world that are not over developed and peaceful. Not having the option to tune into TV or the news should be a indication that even back in the USA it’s good to tune out all the noise from time to time. Patagonia MAKES you do this…now the challenge is to continue with the experience from time to time.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Like I wrote, everything went so smoothly, AND after 6 flights we got our luggage every time. I consider that a success. My only recommendation might be for a bit more research on your part on the actual excursions at the Tierra Patagonia. In looking back there were two things early in the process that caused me a bit of worry…buying the trip insurance and scheduling our own domestic flights. Maybe Swoop could consider a better cheat sheet on these needs.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

I felt both prepared and very excited. I knew that this was planned as a custom/white glove experience and it delivered. I have told others that doing all the planning that went into putting the itinerary together was so worth it.
