What was your most memorable moment?
This is a really hard question! There were special moments every step along the way, in every location. But….I would have to say that waking up around 6:30 on our first morning at Chalten Camp (that is, our first morning in Patagonia) and seeing the pink sunrise light on the peaks was my first glimpse of just how incredible this trip would be. And that was just the first most memorably moment! Truly awe-inspiring.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
It’s really easy to overpack. We worked hard not to, but we still did. Essentials, though: plenty of sunscreen (there’s no ozone there so the Sun is intense) and lip balm (thanks, Alicia!); a buff to protect from the wind; a hat with a stiff brim that can withstand the wind; and, yes, LAYERS.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
We’ll have these memories for the rest of our lives. I am in awe of Patagonia and places like Patagonia Camp and Chalten Camp that provide phenomenal experiences while respecting the extraordinary environment.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Keep doing what you are doing. You are AMAZING. Oh, but one thing: we had to call Patagonia Camp after their transport dropped us off in Punta Arenas because I’d left a small bag behind. There were 3 different phone numbers on the itinerary—it was a pretty tense moment as we were trying to call as quickly as we could (before the driver left town) and it worked, but the correct number was not immediately obvious. So maybe verify the contact numbers? (That said, just having the detailed itinerary with all the contact info was fantastic.)
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
Unbelievably excited. I wish we’d made the trip 20 years ago, to be honest, when we were more fit so we could have done more hikes. We did the ‘moderate’ treks at Patagonia Camp and they were fine, but we also needed a day off there to collect ourselves (which was, of course, fabulous b/c they have trails right there and the Cascada is amazing).
Tell us about Patagonia Camp
Everything was IMPEQUE! Truly amazing, all of it. We had 5 night there and I am so, so grateful we did. The Food, the staff, the guides, the rooms, the property, the place, the views, the bar, the wine, every aspect was utterly top-notch.
