What was your most memorable moment?

Hiking to the base of the Towers in the dark, wind, and then snow (!) in very cloudy conditions all on our own, only to have the clouds open up and blue skies and views slowly appear before our eyes when we arrived at the top. So completely worth it!

Tell us about Awasi

Beautiful room. Elegant lodge. Everything Awasi focuses on is the right thing and they don’t bother trying to impress with frufru stuffy high-brow details that don’t matter. They focus on actual hospitality, where you feel warm, welcome, at home, and elevated whether you arrive in donning a designer outfit or are wind blown and ruggedly dirty from a day out in the park. The fireplace and hot tubs that are ready and waiting for you in your individual rooms make you feel so tended to; they leave a little gift/surprise for you each day; the meals are absolutely incredible (even the to-go breakfasts are mouthwatering) and the staff were our absolute favorite. They took the time to get to know your individual preferences so they can improve your stay wherever possible, and we thoroughly enjoyed how much effort they put into us. Our guide, Tomas, was funny, practical, down to earth, and all in all just superb. By the time you consider what you are getting - the private and well tended room with a view, a private dedicated driver and guide, multi course gourmet meals with unlimited wine pairings, the little luxuries, etc., we actually felt that that high cost is some of the best we have spent on any of our trips. We would make the long trek to the end of the world again simply to stay at Awasi - it was absolutely worth it.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Very doable to bring just a carry-on if you’re at a hotel — bring two changes of base layer hiking gear for warmth,0 and some wind- and water-proof (or resistant) shells/shoes, a good hat and gator, and you’ll be good to go.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Very!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Loved all the articles and info in the portal. Would have loved for all that info to be distilled into a two-pager though; I am sure there are very thorough planning type folks who read everything — in our case though this trip was our first stop on our honeymoon and with wedding planning and other logistics we had no time to really dive in. A short “if you read anything, read this!” Would’ve been really helpful!!! The webinar video recordings were good and I did appreciate those.
