What was your most memorable moment?
That’s tough, there were plenty. Probably being knocked off our feet in 100km/h winds on the final hiking day of the W-trek to the towers. After having had exceptional weather this felt great to see Patagonia in all its varieties. The guides were great at managing everyone’s safety and comfortability with the weather and we didn’t finish the trek but that didn’t matter!

Tell us about EcoCamp
It was very good. Food, bar, service, transport, tours - all exceptional. Our door on the dome didn’t lock from the outside which was a bit annoying and the wind was battering both it and the window one night so sleep wasn’t easy, but you’re coming to a very exposed part of the world! Domes do get quite cold as well in shoulder season but they provide you with about 6 layers of bedding! Water went out a few times in the shower block. On one very windy day that stopped hikes they put on extra entertainment - dancing, extra yoga class, free drink and a film. The guides were people you genuinely warmed to and learnt so much from about Patagonia and themselves too!

The refugio stay over was a great experience and made it feel like a proper adventure. Lake Grey, French Valley were both great excursions with incredible views.
Tell us about the Trekking
Good trekking, not extreme though and if you’re super fit you may want more than the 11km hike on day 2. Weather meant we only did 9km on day 3 so only about 40km in total in 3 days, which wasn’t that much for us - but for others in our group it was a perfect amount and we of course didn’t leave disappointed, will just have to come back one day!
Something Else?
Yoga and massages were both great!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Prepare for all weathers in shoulder season.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It has made me feel I’m less of a city person than ever! After travelling up to Santiago and Valparaiso after Patagonia, we wished we’d spent more of our trip in Patagonia.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
