What was your most memorable moment?
Hiking with my wife to the base of Fritz Roy. The varied terrain and the ultimate finish at the top of the climb were breath taking. The first lake was still frozen on December 13th so we walked down and to the left and saw the smaller lake and it was just beautiful.

Tell us about Patagonia Camp
This is a great place to use as your base while in Torres Del Paine. The pamper you and the staff was amazing. You stay in a yurt that has all the comforts of home. Being able to look up at night or in the morning and see the stars or clouds through the top of the yurt was a unique experience. All excursions are arranged the night before. You then wake up at the designated time and they prepare you for the day ahead. The guides were very professional and a wealth of knowledge while hiking. I would highly recommend Patagonia Camp.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
If possible take an extra day while on your trip to sleep in and shop or just to enjoy a more relaxed day. We did Torres, Calafate, and Chalten on our trip. We built an extra day in while staying at Patagonia Camp in Torres area and we then went kayaking and hiked a short hike to a beautiful waterfall. We then had transportation through our hotel to cross the border into Argentina. This went flawlessly but it does take 5 hours. If you are considering renting a car in Calafate I recommend it. We were able to drive back and forth to the Perito glacier and then drove to Chalten and to the start of the hike to Huemel glacier (about an hour drive on a gravel road to one of the most beautiful glaciers we saw on a short 2 mile round trip hike). Having a car gives you the freedom to do more and do what you want when you want. We rented from Hertz. If you are think of hiking Fits Roy I recommend to get a taxi (we left at 6 am) to the Electrico stop on the gravel road just before the long bridge to start the trail and take a Y shaped hike instead as you get to see the hanging glacier and more scenic sites. You walk back down into Chalten to your hotel or better yet park your car in the morning at the parking lot to cut back on the last mile or so of the road into Chalten. We stayed at Chalten Suites, a great choice.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Hard to say. I think I appreciate the beauty of the area we visited and through talking to people realized that in USA we take our freedoms for granted.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Swoop was excellent. Really liked the team call to ask questions in a small group setting.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
We were ready. We had clothes to dress in layers and were ready for anything that could come our way. Lucky for us we had excellent weather, but we still did experience snow, wind and rain all on our hike to Fitz Roy.
