Tell us about Patagonia Camp
Rooms and hot tubs and food were excellent. We were disappointed in the excursions for two reasons: 1) the Camp's website does not tell you ahead of time that you can do a specific excursion only if 2 yurts sign up for it, We ended up paying $250 extra for a hike listed in their top three hikes (Grey lake) and 2) the excursions are very fast paced and the guides are trying to get you back to the earlier boats headed back to camp (even though a later boat is available). So do the challenging hikes only if you are super fit, if you want to do the hike at your own pace, I would NOT recommend Patagonia camp.
Tell us about Torres del Paine
Beautiful but lots of tourists on the hike. Very crowded.
Tell us about the Excursions
Guides were friendly and knowledgeable. But they clearly wanted to get home by a certain time.
Tell us about the Trekking
I would recommend only to super fit travellers who want to do a fast paced hike
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
If you want to do a challenging hike at your own pace, either do it on your own or have a personalized guide. Avoid group hikes
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I will seek less popular destinations to go hiking. Also, would prefer a personalized guide.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
1. Set appropriate expectations re itinerary: would have save worry if I had known that itinerary was coming in 2 weeks vs 2-4 weeks 2. Local partners were very very responsive to text but: they need better guidance on information to provide passengers example (i) precise meeting point of pick up for a trip, In Ushuaia, on first day, I was told to go to "bus terminal" for Martillo island penguin trip but did not know the name of the tour company that was taking me. Figured this out after some minute frantic texting with the local partner. Then my name was missing from the tour company's list...more texting and phone calls to figure this out. Though it all ultimately got figured out, it did leave me wondering whether I should have arranged the trip on my own vs using a primary-secondary-tertiary company! (ii) transportation: Swoop itinerary said Bus Sur, local partner said Bus cootra....several texts to get it sorted out 3. Not sure I want to visit Patagonia camp again
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
Information provided by swoop was excellent. Currency information was not necessarily accurate. I did not need any local currency in Argentina: US $ were accepted everywhere. Swoop recommended lots of tips in Chile, I did not see other guests handing out any tips at all.
