Tell us about the Trekking
The scenery was awe inspiring. The unexpected, above and beyond were: the good food, and our marvelous guide, Javier, and our porter, Isa. They were the magic on this trek. Their outdoor skills were impressive - Javier’s knowledge of the parks, Aysen, the flora and fauna, etc. was outstanding. Javier was a great coach. Javier and Isa’s interpersonal skills were truly first rate - their unflagging positive energy and their sense of humor upped the experience from great to one of the best vacations ever!
Something Else?
Appreciate that Swoop and Mary could reorganize our trip due to flooding. And appreciated Mary’s time with us on Zoom. We’d read the average temps on Swoop website, but we didn’t understand how cold the campsites are at night in the fall - not until we spoke to Mary. We quickly packed, borrowed, purchased better cold weather gear. I think we would have been miserably cold if we hadn’t talked with Mary. I highly encourage Swoop to make such a conversation a standard part of everyone’s pre-travel experience. I probably could have used a little “lighten your pack” reminder too.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
The kayak to Las Capillas was marvelous. Appreciated that Andres, our guide, prided himself on his knowledge of the geology of the area - we appreciated all we learned - and his efforts to take and share pics of us on the water!
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Already wrote about that. Wanted to add here that Mary’s choice of overnight stays in Coyhaique, Cerro Castillo, and at Pared Sur Campamento were excellent.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
Swoop does promise a “gear list” tailored to your particular trip. Ours was provided a little later than promised because it was explained that staff were on vacation through March 1. And as I wrote before, the online conversation was what really helped.
