I think the Swoop website was super helpful to prepare, especially the personal reviews. I do think some of it could be updated though, specifically around Chile and Argentina currency. We didn’t have to obtain AR pesos during our 7 days there because credit card and USD are widely accepted. CH pesos were accessible even in small towns like Puerto Natales. I think since COVID accepting credit card has become a much more common feature - even preferred at the Chilean Refugio’s!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Bring ear plugs and an eye mask - lots of shared sleeping arrangements and/or large Refugio’s (some slept as many as 250 people). Keep a credit card handy as it’s widely accepted everywhere and sometimes preferred. Pack light! It’s super easy to rinse quick dry clothing and to rewear.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It was really magnificent and haunting to see a glacier up close. To see large chunks regularly fall into the water made the impacts of climate change feel more urgent. It made me appreciate the park and vendor efforts with compostable materials, but continue to emphasize that more has to be done collectively.

Overall, my experience was excellent working with Danny and Lewis. I think there could be updates made to the information on the website.
Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?
I think it would’ve been helpful to have more context about the Refugios in Torres del Paine. I was not expecting them to be so large, have a bunch of amenities, and even have wifi access. A sleeping bag liner is really all you need (and you’d be fine without it).
