Tell us about EcoCamp
Our suite was not ready when we arrived as they had overbooked, so we had to change rooms on our second day. The excuse they gave us on check in was that there was a problem with the gas..however when we asked if we could at least see the room they said no because it was occupied...so clearly they stuffed up and were not honest with us. The food was excellent, however the dining area can be overcrowded and noisy at times. As well, and importantly, the setup for putting together lunches for take away is very poor..it is not at all well set up to enable multiple guest to quickly gather their lunches.
Tell us about The Fjords
The fiords cruise was excellent, the ship was terrific, however we did no see as much marine wildlife as expected...but that is no one's fault..
Tell us about Tierra del Fuego
We spent 3 nights in Ushuaia which was more than required. The Arakur hotel is very nice with good food, but little things were missed I do not believe it qualifies as a a leading hotel of the world nor justifies the price. (room not vaccuumed daily, robe and slippers not in room upon arrival) The prisoner train excursion is very expensive and not worth it, and frankly underwhelming. The Swoop team should have clearly stated the blue market USD/Argentine peso exchange rate for USD cash was far better than the official rate at banks (ie 2x better).
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Take USD cash for exchange to Argentine pesos, take hiking poles, take spare sunglasses (I lost one pair due to extreme wind). Skip the train trip at Ushuaia. Ventis Australis cruise is excellent. Allow more than 3 full days for hiking in Patagonia, as days can be lost due to weather, especially extreme wind.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Swoop team was excellent with only minor comments re USD for exchange made previously.
Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?
Definitely recommend guest take hiking poles.
