The whale watching part of the trip could be much better. The crew of the boat were wonderful. The captain is an amazing person. Not only was he a very good and competent captain of the boat, he is also an amazing chef. However we all felt like we were just along for the ride. There was very little interpretation of what the researchers were doing and why. We also had no idea that the boat ride was going to be eight hours to get to the island and then eight hour to get back. All that to spend one day (on the same small boat) looking for whales. All of in the group agreed that one more day on the island would have made it better. Also, the whale sound web site says there is a 600 meter boardwalk to an observation lookout, but the boardwalk was broken down and has been for some time and therefore we could not walk on the island anywhere. And the island is gorgeous!

It can get cold (and wet). Bring appropriate clothes!
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It broadened my perspective. As a biologist, I learned a lot about the natural history of a part of the world where I knew very little.
Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?
Be clearer on travel times between sites.
