What was your most memorable moment?
It's difficult to pick one moment over an 8 day period. One of the greatest moments was reminiscing about the trip just as we completed the trek. Discussing how humbling the entire experience was, along with the pain, laughs, and knowledge gained.
Which of the following best describes your adventure?
Life changing
On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend or colleague?
9 out of 10
On a scale of 0 to 10, how would you rate your trip: South Patagonian Ice Field Expedition?
8 out of 10
Were Swoop right to recommend Serac?
Yes
Tell us about Los Glaciares
The weather was unforgiving and uncooperative which resulted in some setbacks. However, the sheer vastness of Los Glaciares is something that can never be put into words or shown through pictures. It's an experience one can only gain from seeing firsthand.
Tell us about the Mountaineering
The mountaineering is not for your typical hiker or climber. It would be an incredibly difficult day hike for many people, let alone an 8 day event with 50lb packs. However, to a strong bodied, and minded, person I would highly recommend the expedition, however caution would be given prior.
Tell us about the Trekking
Our guides were excellent with giving us recommendations on how to approach situations and dilemmas. They provided insights on the fauna, history, and geological formations which they both took much pride in.
Something Else?
The trek was much more difficult than we had anticipated. We were a bit unsure what gear to bring, as the list had some items that were optional or recommended. Having an initial call with the guides and seeing what items they recommended (or didn't) would be helpful in determining what to pack. Additional trail and weather conditions would have been helpful. Pictures provided don't show the extremes that could be encountered which conveys complacency.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Plan for the unexpected, plan for wind, rain, snow, and sleet. Plan for cloud coverage and poor visibly. Plan extra time, as the elements will be against you.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Not only was it the most physically demanding experience, it is very emotional and mental. During the trek you rethink all your decisions that got you there, when you're done you're ready to plan the next trip.
Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?
As mentioned, better defining what gear was required would have helped. We were expecting 'summer' conditions and were hit with conditions we would experience in winter in the Rocky Mountains. Everyone had too much gear which ended up being left before the trek started.
