Overall, how was your trip?
A highlight was going ashore at Cape Horn. The landscapes were incredible, each one was stunning in its vastness and beauty. We saw penguins twice--they were delightful! We met a few interesting fellow travellers. The crew on the Stella Australis was fantastic. We will tell our family and friends that this was a holiday of a lifetime. There are too many specifics to share in a few words! There were several magical moments when we overwhelmed by the beauty of Patagonia and the fact we were far off the beaten path of tourism.
In one sentence, what did you think of Patagonia? Did it live up to your expectations?
AMAZING! Yes, it exceeded our expectations.
Would you visit again?
Yes
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Overall, we were pleased with SWOOP tailoring a holiday that meet all our wishes. Service prior to the trip was excellent. Final itinerary was very complete We used Whats app once as there was no one to meet us at the ship from our hotel.
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
10 out of 10
How was your experience in Torres del Paine?
The Lake walk--15k hike in the park The gauchos Scenery spectacular--weather extraordinary Condors, sea lions and birds Excursions were good though the Singular is slightly misleading with what they offer as not all excursions were available; part of why we booked there was the kayaking options..only the most generic one was on offer . Definitely, a touristic approach Guides were good we only did one hike in the park...no time to do more Accommodation at Singular first class! They provided food and drinks prepared before during and after excursions. The spa not great. yes, we would recommend the hotel but only for a couple of nights...Menu does't change and the distance to travel to Torres del Paine and further afield is far.. Transport worked fine once we found the driver
How was your Patagonian cruise?
Cape Horn, the penguins, hiking and natural beauty all highlights. Zodiac excursions and landing superb A few sea lions, the occasional whale spotting and loads of penguins The guides were incredible: knowlegable, friendly, kind, interested, proud of their history, adventurous a lovely bunch! everything on the ship was great--service, food, cabins The logistics pre cruise were good , post cruise there was no one to meet us and Randy had to find the van in the parking area..we speak no Spanish so that was tricky
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It has not changed our perspective really. We spent 20 years sailing on our 40" boat and appreciated and enjoyed the cruise the most. We met several others who had booked with Swoop and wish we had thought to ask for more recommendations in the area as they had interesting plans post cruise EG: el Calafate, Mt Fitzroy, the lake region etc.. . as we knew nothing about those areas This holiday was a buckertlist item and SWOOP did an excellent job helping us tick that off our list. Thank YOU!
Is there anything you would recommend we change to make trips like yours more environmentally sustainable?
Both the ship and the hotel provide water bottles to refill which is excellent! I would suggest to cruise travellers to bring a travel coffee mug to avoid using paper cups for coffee/tea outside of meal times.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Best advice: embrace EVERY moment in Patagonia, its unlike anywhere else! Less is more! Definitely have many layers, good waterproofs, a hat, a waterproof bag for cameras and good hiking boots. If going on the cruise, take some sort of sinus/cold medication as there are sick people and germs spread quickly!
Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)
I will send photos through Whats app as this isn't working well. Thanks again...
