Overall, how was your trip?
The weather was the best part as we got lucky and out of 17 days had about a half of a day of rain. Beyond that, the hiking and landscapes were spectacular, the people were friendly, the guides were wonderful, the food and lodgings were all spectacular as well.
In one sentence, what did you think of Patagonia? Did it live up to your expectations?
A magical time with beautiful sights and wonderful experiences at every turn.
Would you visit again?
Yes
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Swoop service was great overall, I felt that both the planning (with Peter) and the execution (with Hillary and others) all went very well. All of our requests and questions were handled speedily and with no problems at all. Overall we felt that the places that were selected were perfectly tailored for what we wanted, and there isn't really anything we would have changed about the itinerary or the service. The level of information provided was great and very helpful for getting us to and from the various places we needed to go.
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
10 out of 10
How was your experience in El Calafate and El Chalten?
Aguas Arriba was a wonderful place to stay. The hosts were excellent, the food was simple but very "homey" and delicious. The lodge itself is beautiful, tucked in a valley with a lake and glaciers on one side. We had a marvelous time hiking, relaxing, and even fly fishing. Chalten was nice, though we were only there for a single evening. Interestingly, it struck us as similar to Boulder, CO in that it was populated almost entirely by outdoors stores, hikers, bars, and restaurants. It was charming in a slightly odd sort of way, but we had a good time there. Hotel Senderos was great and would recommend to anyone.
How was your experience in Torres del Paine?
Torres del Paine and EcoCamp were probably the highlight of the trip, or certainly top 3 things. We again got lucky with the weather but everything about EcoCamp was wonderful. The facilities, the guides, the food, the location, the travel arrangements, the expeditions, everything was marvelous and we wouldn't change a thing.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Swoop's advice was all great. The only slight hiccup was that even though we knew we needed to get Argentinian pesos we had difficulty with it. The ATM in Calafate at the airport was out of money and BOTH ATMs in Chalten were out of money. Thankfully we brought plenty of US dollars. You might also add to your advice for folks in Chalten that at least at Hotel Senderos the front desk was happy to exchange USD for Argentinian pesos, which ended up being convenient.
