How was your experience in Santiago and the surrounding area?

Hotel Ismael good small hotel. Great breakfast and friendly staff. The guide Sergio was excellent and very knowledgeable. Day trip to Valparaiso was good and had nice lunch. Visited Maule valley wineries. Should have spent more time at wineries in other regions (my choice and regret).

How was your experience in El Calafate and El Chalten?

Hotel Esplendor has view of Lake and spacious rooms. Rather big and impersonal. Poor breakfast. Marpatag 1 day glacier tour was a bit disappointing. The guide/crew on board was excellent - food and wine. A long day and bit boring as it takes 2 hours to get to first glacier and we could not see it as there was ice. Weather was rainy and could not see much from inside the cabin.

How was your experience in Torres del Paine?

Explora hotel was excellent . The best location, wonderful staff from restaurant, drivers, spa and guides. Everything was wonderful. We had bad weather including the worst winds for a long time but managed to go our everyday. My husband loved the horse riding and excellent stables. We felt so safe and looked after. Luxury in the spa and massages as well. Car pick up from Natales was great even when we were delayed from crossing the channel from estancia mercedes. They waited all afternoon till 8 PM to get us.

How was your experience in the Lake District?

Hotel Aldea Naukana better than expected.Had a very good room with view to Villarica Volcan.Pucon area nice. Visited Huequhue national park. Termas Gemoetricas are excellent. Hotel Awa in Puerto Varas was excellent -stunning views and wonderful service. Would love to visit again. Disappointed with hired car. It was a city small car - most of the roads round Pucon, Termas etc are unsealed with lots of pot holes. It was very wet just before we arrived so it was a worry driving. We ended up with 2 punctures driving from Termas Geometricas to Puerto Varas. Luckily we got it just as we were driving into Pangipulli and managed to find a place who fixed it for us.Wish we had a 4WD .

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

We really enjoyed Estancia Mercedes and the wonderful family who took us into their home. We are now friends with them. However, it was a problem when we could not return to Puerto Natales to transfer to Explora Hotel. The channel was closed due to strong winds. We ended up crossing on our own means and made it to Explora at 10 PM. I thought we would miss our first night there. Ferry crossing there is unreliable.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

Will email more later. Would like to visit El Chalten, maybe one day. We enjoyed Chile and everyone we met was friendly. It was a nice holiday to know everything had been arranged and we were looked after.

How was your wine experience in Chile?

Casa Silva lunch - nice setting /polo game was on. Winery tour/tasting -impersonal Casa Bouchon - hotel was wonderful.Food/wine was great.Lovely rooms.
