Overall, how was your trip?
Highlight was waking up to see Mt Fitzroy, bathed in the glory of the morning sunrise, with a surreal deep golden reflection, in a cloudless blue sky. It happened to coincide with my brother's birthday, which was an added bonus, and a priceless bitrthday gift at the same time. Landscapes were vast, stretching way beyond normal horizon spans with all manner of varied terrain and topography. Colours were vivid and weather changeable, with high winds I have seldom encountered before. People were friendly, accommodating and helpful and despite limited Spanish, we managed very well.
In one sentence, what did you think of Patagonia? Did it live up to your expectations?
Patagonia is a fantastic unspoilt corner of the world, with majestic scenery wherever you cast your gaze. My trip was truly once in a lifetime, and more than satisfied one of my major "bucket list" items !
Would you visit again?
Yes
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Swoop were extremely helpful in organising most aspects of our trip, including flights, itinerary, and accommodation. Their organisation skills and experience undoubtably helped shape our 2 week trip into an organised affair, allowing us to make the most efficient use of our limited time, but kept it eminently manageable and thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide ( Pablo ) was superb fun, and immensely knowledgeable at the same time.
How did you feel about booking directly with our partner(s)?
We were extremely happy with Swoop and their partners in Chile and Argentina, and this ranged from the months leading up to our trip, in the planning stage as well as during our stay. Partners responded immediately to enquiries, and also made modifications to parts of our itinerary seamlessly, where required. They clearly kept tabs on us from a distance and made sure that we were alerted to last minute changes and alternative plans for events that were out of their control eg : catamaran breaking down at the end point of the W-trail.
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
10 out of 10
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Yes you could theoretically book things like accomodation yourself, but I think I would have struggled to get things right without local knowledge ( in retrospect ). And I mostly do my own arrangements to date. So my only tip is that you use an experienced company like Swoop to arrange it for you. We did the W-trail in Chile, but if we had more time, would have liked to do the O-trail, which is a significantly longer version that includes the whole of the W-trail. As far as Argentina is concerned, apart from Mt Fitzroy and Torre, I would highly recommend a visit to the Perito Moreno glacier. Last tip, be prepared for all sorts of weather ! Windproofs essential !!
