El Chalten is a fantastic base for hiking around Mount FitzRoy in Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park.

Best for: Budget camping
Lago del Desierto
£6 per night for camping with hot showers
This campsite is right in the middle of town and very popular with climbers.
Best for: Good Value
Hosteria el Paraiso
£60 per night for 2 people in double room
Clean, quiet, friendly, well located, simple but good breakfasts.
Gonzalo who works there speaks excellent English and is very friendly and helpful – he can arrange everything for you from taxis and transfers to restaurant bookings and excursions.
Best for: Well deserved after a few days’ hiking
Hosteria Senderos
£100 per night for 2 people in double room <r>
Beautiful rooms, many with view out to FitzRoy itself. Nice public rooms and a good breakfast.
What are people saying on TripAdvisor? Above all “cozy”, but also “comfortable” and “friendly”.
Best for: Luxury
Los Cerros
£200 per night for 2 people in double room
Elevated a few metres above the rest of the town for great views. Rooms are 4-5 star and there’s a good restaurant and bar downstairs. The public rooms are vaste and filled with books and memorabilia of FitzRoy’s history.
What are people saying on TripAdvisor? Good service and location, but over-priced.
